Oxy-Acetylene Flashback (Flashback Arrestor Tests)

The performance of flashback arrestors is critical to the safe operation of fuel gas systems, especially oxygen acetylene welding equipment. A common concern in the welding industry is the development of conditions wherein an oxygen-acetylene (i.e., oxyacetylene) flashback reaction can propagate into a welding hose causing it to burst due to the rapid localized pressurization associated with an oxygen-acetylene deflagration-to detonation transition.
Watch the following videos simulating a flashback into a welding hose without a flashback arrestor with normal speed video and high-speed video using a transparent hose.
